One The Square is the brainchild of Magda Devaris who comes from a family of architects. She studied architecture in her 30's in London and then went on to to work on various sustainability projects, from greening people's homes as part of a GLA ( Greater London Assembly) initiative, to small startups working with ethical textiles. Magda has always been passionate about craftmanshiop and this has led her to work with many talented makers from all disciplines. Her interest lies in the provenance of materials, how they are put together, their relationship with the maker and in turn how this is enjoyed by the end user.
Forest Row is blessed with biodynamic farms, so all the produce is sourced locally. Our compost is taken to the CSA (Community Supported Agricultural scheme) and weekly veg boxes are delivered. Our workshop lunches are delicious vegetarian feasts which nourish you on many levels.
Crochet with Annabelle Davis. Crochet is growing in popularity both as a creative pastime and as an effective way to manage stress and bring some balance into today’s fast pace of life. It offers the chance to relax into a repetitive rhythm which can help achieve a state of mindfulness.
By working with our hands, we have the opportunity to think differently than in our heads and we begin to appreciate the enjoyment of being fully immersed in the present moment.
In our workshop, we will focus on the process rather than the end result, working with natural materials and choosing colours which bring us joy.
Crochet helps to improve manual dexterity whilst slowing us down into a meditative and calm space.
Introduction to Pastel Drawing: with Martin Schmandt. We will explore different ways of creating a beautiful surface with this sensuous medium, and learn a step by step method for developing an image in convincing light and shadow. No experience necessary!
